Artist: Haggard
Song: The Observer
Album: Eppur Si Muove (Click here to buy the album on Amazon)
This song is from the third album by the German symphonic metal band Haggard. The whole album is based on Galileo Galilei. They had, in addition to the 16 band members, over 10 guest musicians for the making of the album.
The intro is very like classical music, but then the heavy guitar comes in to accent the beats. After that there is a beautiful piano melody with a spoken text over it. It's very calm, with the text spoken in a whisper. So when the song suddenly becomes metal it comes as quite a surprise. The symphonic elements are still theere, but they are more in the background.
The riff right after he sings "Galileo Galilei" is awesome.
It ends with that piano melody played again, which I think is a really nice ending. It sort of goes from classical to metal and back again.
I hope you like it :)
