DragonForce - Cry Thunder

Artist: DragonForce
Song: Cry Thunder
Album: The Power Within (Click here to pre-order the album)

This is the first and only track I've heard from DragonForce's new album. It seems that The Power Within is going to be awesome.
There's a lot of guitar soloing going on. Sam and Herman works nicely together to create really nice melodies and some amazing shredding. I think the main solo might be the best solo I've heard by them (on a fast song at least, 'cause the solo on "Dawn Over A New World" is beautiful). On most of the earlier solos I've heard there's usually a little too much shred for my taste, but I like the balance they've found in this one.
Dave Mackintosh's drumming is great. It really compliments the song, while showing that he is a skilled drummer. You can see a bit of the recording process here. The first part of that video is all about the drums.
Frédéric Leclercq (I have no idea how to pronounce that :p) is the bassist. He was first brought in to just play bass for their shows in North America and Japan, but he was so good that he was offered a permanent spot. He plays some nice bass in this song, which can especially be heard in the intro between 0:11-0:16.
Vadim Pruzhanov plays the keyboards, which are not very prominent, but they add another dimension to the music.
Marc Hudson sings really great. He's a great replacement for ZP. If you want to hear some more of his singing, here's another studio video showing the recording of the vocals from around 2 minutes into the video.
Having seen and heard all this, I can say that I'm really looking forward to the new album. It's going to be amazing!

I hope you like it :)

  1. I like the new singer. He's way better than the previous one. I like the marching rhythm the song has. I'm looking forward to hear the entire album.

PS: Herman Li is still a douchebag. :P

  2. What does it matter if he's a douchebag (I'm wondering why you think that he is, because I can't see it) as long as he's that good at playing guitar :p

    1. Well, he's fast but fast doesn't always mean good. :)

    2. You're right about that, but he has some awesome solos too, even though he shreds a bit too much at times :)
